Manish Tewari comes from a lineage of an eminent Punjabi family in public life. He belongs to a dedicated political family of Punjab. His father Dr. V.N. Tewari, a professor of Punjab University, has written more than 40 books in Punjabi and quite number of these are about the Sikh Gurus and their sacrifices. His father was also part of the freedom movement and was killed by terrorists in 1984, few months before Operation Blue Star. Mr. Tewari’s Grand Father, Sardar Tirath Singh too was an advocate and Minister in the Congress Government in Punjab. His mother Dr. Amrit Kaur Tewari is a renowned Doctor who treated ailing humans by rendering her services at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Chandigarh. Politics was in Mr. Manish Tewari’s blood as he had inherited it from his parents and Grand Parents.
Mr. Manish Tewari’s association with Congress started in 1981, in his pre university days when he joined its Youth Wing. He rose to become All India Youth Congress President and held Post from 1998 to 2000, later he became the Secretary of AICC and was appointed as Spoke-person of AICC in 2008. Mr. Manish Tewari is a hearted young leader who is fighting against corruption as well as the improvement in living conditions and Law & Order situation in Ludhiana. Mr. Tewari contested the Lok Sabha Election in 2004 from Ludhiana, but unfortunately he lost the election by a very small margin. Even after losing he remained constantly in touch with the people of Ludihana for last five years and served the people of Ludhiana.
Mr. Manish Tewari says “I will continue to serve the people of Ludhiana in future as well. It is an unending bond between me and people of Ludhiana, which is going to last forever” Mr. Manish Tewari is a man of principal, who never compromised for personal interest and is always keen to serve people and ready to fight for their right.
Manish Tewari also assisted in construction of under bridges and a medical institution in his constituency.Working as AICC Secretary Manish Tewari has held important assignments and remained in-charge of Congress affairs in Gujarat. He said he would make special efforts to bring in big industry and agro-based industry in Punjab which would provide massive employment opportunities to the Punjabi youth. Mr Tiwari wants to work for the setting up of a Steel Regulatory Authority on the lines of the Telecom Regulatory Authority to ensure that price fixation was kept out of any influence of cartelization and ensure withdrawal of multi-level excise duty on hosiery goods. Besides, an information centre and an E-commerce centre will be established that would deal with all possible avenues in the service sector and extend guidance and counseling regarding different self-finance schemes.
He stressed on the infrastructure for diversification of agriculture and to set up small and medium processing plants on the European pattern in each block. Vegetables like potatoes, tomatoes, chilies, carrots, capsicum, cabbage, peas, fruits and barleys will be processed. Efforts will be made to set up a full-fledged veterinary university. According to Manish he ensures an investment of Rs 10000 crore in his constituency over the next five years if given a chance to serve the people of Ludhiana in an authorised capacity.
