Manish Tewari comes from a lineage of an eminent Punjabi family in public life. He belongs to a dedicated political family of Punjab. His father Dr. V.N. Tewari, a professor of Punjab University, has written more than 40 books in Punjabi and quite number of these is about the Sikh Gurus and their sacrifices. His father was also part of the freedom movement and was killed by terrorists in 1984, few months before Operation Blue Star. Mr. Tewari’s Grand Father, Sardar Tirath Singh too was an advocate and Minister in the Congress Government in Punjab. His mother Dr. Amrit Kaur Tewari is a renowned Doctor who treated ailing humans by rendering her services at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Chandigarh. Politics was in Mr. Manish Tewari’s blood as he had inherited it from his parents and Grand Parents. However, Mr Tewari does not attribute his coming into politics entirely to his background. Mr Manish Tewari is a senior Congress leader as well as a practicing lawyer and Secretary of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC).
